Head Start Environmental Exposure Mapping Tool

The Urban Institute, September 2023 With Christina Baird and Wesley Jenkins

Many of society’s environmental risks are manmade. These hazards tend to be disproportionately concentrated in communities with fewer resources, less wealth, and less political power. Children in particular face greater risk of long-term harms from these environmental hazards, which are exacerbated by the growing effects of climate change. This tool shows the exposure to different environmental and climate-related hazards that Head Start children have in a given geography.
